PICO Genesis
PICO Genesis is a laser treatment that delivers energy in picosecond pulses — extremely short bursts that act mainly through a rapid photomechanical effect rather than prolonged heating. This may help break down selected pigment within the skin and support a more even-looking tone and refined texture in suitable patients. Pigmentation can arise from several different causes, including sun exposure, post-inflammatory change and melasma, and each behaves differently, so an in-person diagnosis is needed before any laser is considered. Settings are selected by Dr. Areej Albisher according to the diagnosis and skin type. PICO Genesis does not promise complete or permanent removal of pigmentation, and some pigment conditions can recur or require ongoing medical management. Suitability, session numbers and outcomes vary between patients.

About the device
PicoGenesis is a treatment protocol performed with picosecond laser technology from Cutera, a manufacturer of aesthetic lasers. Cutera is the company, not a treatment in itself; the same manufacturer also makes the Excel V platform. Settings are selected for each skin type after assessment.
Common questions
Is there downtime?
Most patients return to usual activities soon afterwards. Temporary redness, warmth or mild swelling may occur, and treated pigment may darken briefly before flaking. Recovery varies with settings and skin type.
When may results become visible?
Some change is often seen over one to several weeks as treated pigment clears, with further change across a course. Pigment conditions differ in behaviour and the degree of improvement varies.
How many sessions may be recommended?
A course of sessions spaced a few weeks apart is common, alongside sun protection and any prescribed medical care. The number depends on the diagnosis and your skin's response.
