Microneedling (Dermapen), AnteAGE Biosomes & Exosomes
Microneedling uses a sterile device with very fine needles to create controlled micro-channels in the skin. This deliberate, minor injury prompts the skin's natural repair process, which may gradually improve texture, the appearance of selected acne scars, enlarged-looking pores and fine lines. Dermapen is one widely used motorised pen device; depth and passes are adjusted to the area and skin type. Topical products are sometimes applied during or after treatment, including exosome-based serums. Exosomes are tiny particles released by cells, and research into them is early: evidence in skin and hair is limited, products vary widely, and they should not be regarded as a proven regenerative therapy. In the United States, for example, no exosome product is approved by the FDA for treating any condition. Any product used is discussed with you in advance. AnteAGE Biosomes with microneedling
At the clinic, microneedling may be paired with AnteAGE Biosome Solution, part of the AnteAGE MDX range. The manufacturer describes the Biosome Solution as biomimetic: it is formulated in a laboratory to imitate certain signalling molecules involved in skin renewal, rather than being harvested from human or animal cells. It is applied topically to the skin surface during or immediately after Dermapen treatment, while the micro-channels are open; it is not injected. The aim is to support the skin's recovery and the gradual improvement in texture, tone and the appearance of selected scars that microneedling itself is intended to prompt. Independent clinical evidence for this specific product is limited, it is not a substitute for medical treatment of active skin disease, and it does not guarantee a better or faster result than microneedling alone. Applying any product to freshly needled skin can cause stinging, redness, irritation or, rarely, an allergic or granulomatous reaction, so ingredients and your skin history are reviewed beforehand. Biosomes and exosomes are not the same
Exosomes are tiny vesicles released by living cells, and exosome products are biologically derived from cell cultures. AnteAGE Biosomes are described by their manufacturer as biomimetic, meaning laboratory-designed rather than cell-derived. The two are discussed separately on this page because their sources, composition and evidence differ. Research into exosomes in skin and hair is still early and products vary widely; in the United States, for example, no exosome product is FDA-approved to treat any condition.
What to expect, recovery and risks
A numbing cream is usually applied first. Redness similar to sunburn, mild swelling and pinpoint bleeding are expected, with redness commonly settling over one to three days and light flaking possible. Risks include infection, reactivation of cold sores, post-inflammatory pigmentation (particularly in darker skin types) and reactions to topical products, which is why non-sterile or unapproved products should never be applied to treated skin. Microneedling is generally avoided over active acne, infection or certain skin conditions. A course of several sessions about four to six weeks apart is common.
